Wooden Fence Painting Mistakes To Avoid in Scappoose, OR

While you are working on improving the exterior of your home, you may want to think about your wooden fence and how the process of painting it could get it to look that much better.

However, what you should realize that there are certain mistakes that you can make while preparing to paint as well as actually painting your wooden fence -- it can cause great delay in the painting project and cause it to cost a bit more than it should.

Let's have a look at some wooden fence painting mistakes to avoid.

1. Using The Wrong Kind Of Paint

One of the big mistakes that you could make when you're looking to paint your wooden fence is to make use of the wrong kind of paint.

Naturally, this is not to just mean that you are going to be using an exterior paint rather than an interior paint (because of course you would make use of an exterior paint on the exterior of your home) but rather the fact that you are going to need to make use of a paint that is going to protect your home wooden fence from the kind of weather that you may expect to see.

If your area sees a lot more rain than usual, for example, it would be a good idea to make use of a water resistant paint that will help you to keep your fence looking good over

2. Not Cleaning The Fence

One thing that is sure to throw off your painting project is if you are not at all ready to paint it, and if you don't make any time to clean the fence prior to painting it, you will find that it is going to make for a much less worse looking fence.

The reason that this is the case is that you simply have to properly clean any good surface before you paint it -- not doing so is just going to make for a fence that looks like it is dirty and has paint on it.

The best thing that you can possibly do to make sure that you have a well prepared wooden fence is to fully clean it and then to allow it to fully dry before moving on to the next step in the painting project.

3. Not Considering Color Requirements

Though we may think that any consideration on what color or colors are used on painting the fence outside of our home is ours alone to be made, but this is not always the case.

If you live in an area with a Homeowners Association, for example, you may be a bit more limited in terms of color choice -- you would have to look at a list of colors from which you would be allowed to pick -- and even if a color is on the list, you may not be able to make use of a particular color if one of the neighbors closest to you already makes use of that color.

The best thing to do when you are a member of a homeowner's association is to ensure that they are okay with and approve the color or colors that you choose for your fence.

4. Wait For Good Weather

Lastly, remember that you cannot just paint during any time of the year and that you are going to have to wait for good weather before you paint your wooden fence.

If you see, for example, that there is going to be a period of rain in the forecast, that is certainly not going to be a good time to paint your wooden fence -- it may well ruin your wooden fence painting project.

Hold out for a time when you don't see any such rain in the forecast so that you can more properly paint the fence.
