Pros and Cons of Painting Your Brick Exterior in Scappoose, OR

Your home is a lovely place where you spend many hours and when you get home you want to see an exterior that matches what you envision in your mind.

If the exterior of your home is made of brick, you will find that you can paint the exterior of your home, but that isn't going to be for everyone -- there are good and bad sides to painting a brick exterior, which we will be discussing today.

With that being the case, let's have a look at some pros and cons of painting your brick exterior to help you make a decision on what you may want to do.

Pro: Your Home Will Be Better Protected Against Weather

One pro for painting your brick exterior is that you are going to have a home exterior that will be better protected against rough weather.

The material that makes up your brick exterior (brick, that is) is quite porous and therefore is susceptible to damage caused by the elements.

When you choose to make the time to paint that exterior, you will be making that exterior entirely non-porous, protecting it much better from the rain beating against it, snow, and the like.

Con: You Cannot Un-paint Your House

You may be well aware of how you can strip away paint from a home exterior when you have just about any kind of home exterior other than a brick one.

However, this is not the case when it comes to brick exterior -- you are not going to be able to just remove paint from a brick exterior and if you somehow do you will be left with brick that is quite damaged and looks nowhere near as good as the unpainted brick that you had in the first place.

This means that once you make the decision to paint your brick exterior, there's pretty much no going back -- your house is going to be a painted house from the moment you start painting it until... well, until the house is no more!

Keep this in mind and the fact that you can of course change paint colors after a number of years but you will not go back to an unpainted house once you have painted it.

Pro: You Conceal Imperfections

There are times in the life of a brick exterior home where you can see small imperfections on the surface, and you really can't do a lot about it given the material that makes up the exterior.

One thing that can help such a problem is painting the house exterior, as the painting of the exterior does a magnificent job of concealing the imperfections that are sometimes found or that develop over time.

With the application of a coat or two of paint to your home exterior, you won't be able to see these imperfections, even if they are just as little as the color of the bricks not going together as nicely as they once did due to discoloration that might come with weathering and the like.

Con: Increased Maintenance

Though you might think that you are going to be done with your painted brick exterior once you finish painting, this is not the case at all.

Indeed, having a painted brick exterior means that you are going to have to periodically revisit the exterior and check to see if any touch up work needs to be done,

This is not to say that a brick exterior with no paint is just going to take care of itself without maintenance but rather that the amount of maintenance for a painted brick house is sometimes a bit more than that of a house that is not painted.
