5 Living Room Painting Mistakes You Don't Want To Make in Scappoose, OR

In getting ready to makeover your living room, which is quite possibly one of the most important rooms in your home, you may want to think about everything that goes on in the room first -- who you have over when you have company, the kinds of things that you do in the room, and another such thing.

This sort of information will guide you when it comes time to paint the living room -- because knowing about the kind of traffic that you get in the living room can really make a difference in certain factors regarding how the room is painted.

Regardless, you will certainly have a better time painting the room if you are aware of and can avoid certain key mistakes that can be sometimes made in the process of painting and even in the preparation phases as we will be mentioning in today's blog.

Specifically, we are going to talk about five living room painting mistakes you don't want to make in Scappoose, OR.

1. Using The Wrong Kind Of Paint

One key mistake that people are going to sometimes find themselves making when they're looking to paint their living room is that they are going to choose the wrong sort of paint for the purpose of painting their walls.

You might be thinking that this means that they're going to make use of exterior paint instead of interior paint and while that would of course be the wrong kind of paint to be used, that is not what we specifically have in mind here.

More specifically, if you know that you have a lot of traffic in the room as it were you should use a glossier interior paint as that is easier to clean.

There are certain circumstances in which it's better to use flat paint but you should be aware that it's not really possible to just wipe clean a flat paint painted surface as you'd be able to clean a glossy surface.

2. Not Cleaning Before You Paint

Speaking of cleaning, did you know that it's really important to clean the surface that you're going to paint before you paint it?

This means that you have to fully remove any and all of the dust and dirt that may have accumulated on the surface of the walls over time and make sure that you have fully allowed said surfaces to dry before you move on to the next step.

To not do so would be to risk putting the whole painting project in peril as it were, as you are just going to be painting over a surface that has not been properly prepared.

3. Not Cleaning After You Sand

There's a lot of good to be said for the art of properly sanding a surface that you want to be painted and that is that you are going to have a surface that's a lot smoother than the one you started off with.

The problem, however, is that you are also left with a lot of sanding dust -- actual dust that you bring about through the process of sanding the surface.

If you leave that sanding dust there, you are pretty much guaranteed that you are going to have a bad time later on in the painting process.

Specifically, you are going to suffer so to speak because that dust will return on the surface of your walls as you are painting.

Remove the dust and you won't have this issue.

4. Leaving All The Furniture There

If you want to make sure that you have an effective time of painting your living room walls, you will have as little in the way as possible, and this includes your furniture.

Of course, it's not always going to be possible to remove your living room furniture, so you should think about how you might be able to at least move the furniture so that it's not near the walls..

With the furniture away from the walls, make sure that you try to cover them with some sort of drop cloth so that they are protected from paint. that could spill while you are painting.

5. Painting Too Quickly

Lastly, remember that even though the act of painting your living room walls is one that is long in duration, that doesn't mean that it's okay to paint more quickly.

Indeed you will find that if you paint too quickly, you will make more painting mistakes... and those mistakes will have to be later corrected.

Take your time painting and have more time later to not have to fix mistakes.
